Hiking in the Swiss canton of Fribourg (Freiburg)
The Fribourg Pre-Alps have many lovely trails, ranging from easy strolls to very strenuous hikes. These mountains are part of Switzerland’s Bernese Alps. However they are much lower, greener and more accessible than the more famous glaciated peaks further east. Quite a few are triangular peaks, hence very common the name of “dent”, meaning “tooth” in French.
The beautiful medieval town of Gruyères is nearby. After filling up with cheese, you can visit the Cailler chocolate factory for dessert! The town of Charmey would make a good base. Even if you only come for a day hike, Charmey has good restaurants for dinner as well as thermal baths.
